UEAPME has carried out numerous activities in the past years with its homologue organisations in the Mediterranean Countries. The collaboration between UEAPME and the SME organisations is carried out via partnership protocols. UEAPME has a keen interest in the fact the Euro Mediterranean free trade zone foreseen for 2010 as it represents an opportunity for both European and Mediterranean SMEs. UEAPME participated to the TRESMED programme, an initiative of the Spanish Social and Economic Committee financed by the MEDA programme of the European Commission. In the framework of this programme a delegation of the trade Unions, employers and agricols from Algeria, Lebanon, Malta, Morocco and Tunisia visited Brussels in February 2002 and met UEAPME to know its role and its working system. UEAPME participates in the Working Group on Euro-Mediterranean
Industrial Co-operation that is co-ordinated by DG Enterprise of the European
Commission and is composed by representative of the Ministries of Industries
of EU Countries and Mediterranean Countries. UEAPME is involved as a social
partner and representing the private sector together with UNICE and Eurochambres,
