Promoting health and safety in European Small and Medium-sized Entreprises (SMEs) - SME funding Scheme 2001-2002

What is it?

The PREVENTISME project is a one-year European project focussing on the collection of good practices for the prevention of accidents in SMEs, co-funded through the SME Funding Scheme, managed by the European Agency for Health and Safety at Bilbao.

What are the objectives of the project?

The main aim of the project is to identify and disseminate effective good practices for the prevention of accidents and the risk of accidents in SMEs and specifically in small and micro enterprises from across the European Union. It will also identify the structures and actors who play a role in risk prevention in the different Member States. Taking the practical experiences of enterprises as a starting point, the project seeks to highlight the factors for success in reducing and preventing the risks of accident.

Who are the target groups?

There are four main target groups:
1. small and micro enterprises
2. European, national and regional social partners
3. Professional organisations representing the craft industry and SMEs at national level in the 15 Member States and the Candidate countries
4. Sectoral organisations for SMEs (construction, beauty sectors etc)

Who is participating?

UEAPME is the project promoter and the member organisations of UEAPME participating in the project are Confartigianato (Italy), WKÖ and WIFI (Austria), UNIZO (Belgium), FPB (UK), CEPEC and CAPEB (France). The development of the project is being assisted by external experts from "PREVENT" who are specialists in preventative health and safety policies.

What are the activities of the project?

The main work of the project will be carried out by a small pilot group, which is responsible for analysing the information collected by the participating member organisations of UEAPME at national and sectoral level. They will identify the most pertinent good practices and the factors for success and these results will be presented on the project website and in a paper guide to best practices. The work was presented at the final seminar, placed on 26th June 2002 in Brussels.

Final seminar: PREVENTISME Project - Prevention of accidents in SMEs, Presentation of the results and closing event
